Kroger accepts Visa credit cards again, ending fight over fees

Kroger is calling an end to a more than year-long feud with Visa credit cars. As of Wednesday, the nation's largest supermarket chain is allowing the Visa payment network's credit cards to be used at all of its stores once more, backing off a threat to ban Visa credit cards entirely. The Cincinnati, Ohio-based grocer stopped accepting Visa credit cards last year at its Foods Co. subsidiary in California. It then escalated the ban by pulling the plug on accepting the plastic in April at 142 Smith's Food and Drug Stores and 108 fuel centers in seven states, citing what it called "excessive fees." Still, the dispute never reached the overwhelming majority of the 2,800 food stores run by Kroger under brand names including King Scoopers, Harris Teeter, Fred Meyer and Ralphs. Comedian John Witherspoon has died dead at 77

John Witherspoon, an actor and comedian best known for his role as Willie Jones in the "Friday" film franchise, died Tuesday at his home in Sherman Oaks, California, CBS Los Angeles reports. He was 77. In a message posted to Witherspoon's Twitter account, the family confirmed his death. CBS News has learned former Attorney General Jeff Sessions is "seriously considering" a campaign to win back his former U.S. Senate seat, according to multiple people familiar with his thinking. A spokeswoman for Sessions declined to comment early Tuesday. His Washington-based attorney did not immediately return requests for comment. Connecticut police: "Big dogs" find 420 pounds of marijuana in U-Haul truck

Two Los Angeles men face drug charges in Connecticut after troopers pulled over a rental truck filled with marijuana. Police say the U-Haul truck was stopped on Interstate 95 in Darien on Friday afternoon for a traffic violation. When troopers noticed that "when something didn't smell right, the big dogs were called in" to uncover the stash of drugs. Drug-sniffing dogs were called in to help and found 420 pounds of marijuana in the truck's cargo bed. State Police posted a photo on Twitter of the dogs involved in the search, with the drugs stacked behind them. Troopers from Troop G stopped a truck on I-95 in Darien. Woman stuck in submerged car for 10 hours is rescued by kayaker and paddleboarder

Officials say two men were able to rescue an elderly woman from a partially submerged car near a boat ramp in Florida. The Sarasota Herald Tribune reports that the 81-year-old woman was found early Thursday after driving into the water nearly 10 hours earlier at the Higel Marine Park boat ramp in Venice. On its Facebook page, the Venice Police Department posted images of the aftermath and surveillance video of the car entering the water.
